Does the system have to be drained before re-fusing a joint if during testing a leak is detected?
Yes, the water would interfere with the re-welding by heating up at the leak and steaming which would cause additional air bubbles. Also the thermal heat transfer from the heating joint to the water would not allow the joint to reach proper fusing temperature.
Can other mfg welders be interchanged?
No, welders vary on power control thus not allowing a properly welded joint.
Does Zurn CW comply with ASTM-D2146?
ASTM-D2146 was discontinued in 1986. It has been replaced by "Propylene Plastic Injection and Extrusion Materials" designation ASTM-D4101. The material Zurn Industries uses in manufacturing our corrosive waste pipe and fittings is a flame retardant polypropylene copolymer which meets table B property requirements of ASTM-D4101. The full material designation per ASTM-D4101of this material is PP0210 B56562 FL012.
Zurn corrosive waste drainage system complies with ASTM-F1412 "Standard Specification for Polyolefin Pipe and Fittings for Corrosive Waste Drainage Systems" and is listed with or meets requirements of NSF, IAPMO, CSA B181.3.
What is the mechanical joint tested to.
10-foot of head for field testing.
Can polyethylene (PE) pipe be fused with the polypropylene (PP) fittings?
Fusion of polyethylene and polypropylene pipe will not work; the materials are not compatible. However, PE pipe can be joined by a mechanical joint.
Can other manufacturer’s pipe and fittings be used with the Zurn system?
Other’s pipe can but not fittings due to unique design of the Zurn fittings being able to accept either mechanical or fusion seals. The Zurn groover must also be used with our mechanical joints.
Can other’s groovers be used with the Zurn system?
No, the location of the grooves from the end of the pipe are in different locations for different groovers. In order to provide the proper seating depth the Zurn groover must be
used.
Can I use this system for pressure applications?
No, this is a drain, waste and vent (DWV) system and is not pressure rated
Can pipe and fittings be stored outside?
Pipe and fittings can be stored outside temporarily if they are covered and shielded from the sun. The plastic does not contain UV stabilizers and the sun can cause hardening of the surface of the plastic that may interfere with proper joint sealing.
The best method is to order the tank plain end pipe and use a mechanical joint on the tank side. Since the tank is PE and not PP, you cannot fuse to the tank. Also can use male thd end and use our female adapter.
What our your tank lead-times?
Typical lead times for our tanks are 2-4 weeks on up 100 gallons tanks. Anything 100 gallons and larger are a 4-6 week lead time.
What are the welder input power requirements?
Power input requirements of the welder are: 115V, 60Hz, 12 amps. Please follow chart on front of unit for proper extension cord size.
What is the maximum system usage temperature?
The maximum continuous operating temperature is 180oF and is capable of 212oF for intermittent use. Fusion LockTM seals are recommended for high temperature applications.
Can you fusion seals be used as a mechanical seal?
No, The are not designed to properly seal when used as a mechanical seal. The are designed to create a permanent welded joint.
